Current needs of Indian Defence sector

China now a day's is one of the biggest challenge to the indian defence sector. We have seen from last 3 months there is a lot of conflict going between india and china at ladakh and at galwan valley. On 15 june night there was a clash between india and chinese military personels at border disputed area in which our 20 brave soldiers lost their lives. So,china is currently increasing their military power near line of actual control(LAC) and also showing aggression to india. If any war happens in now scenario so what are the five important needs of indian defence sector we will discuss in detail:

1. AIR DEFENCE SYSTEM

S-400 AIR DEFENCE SYSTEM

We know that 5 S-400 regiments deal was signed on 5 october 2018 for US$5.43 billion deal (₹40,000 crore) but due to covid 19 scenario delivery of S-400 is getting late.So to protect india from balestic missiles and fighter planes india need an air defence system.India has 2 good options available that can fulfill the demands of air defence system they are thaad air defence system of america and second david sling air defence system of israel. There are lot of similarities between russian S-400 defence system and david sling air defence system. In this scenario india can purchase israel air defence system which is a very good option.

2. FIGHTER AIRCRAFTS

The IAF is also in the process of issuing a tender for 114 new fighter jets. The Air Force is down to 28 fighter squadrons against a sanctioned strength of 42. Of this, about 10 squadrons are made up of the MiG-21 Bisons and Jaguars, which ideally should have been retired long ago.The IAF is considering proposals for Dassault Aviation’s Rafale, Boeing’s F/A 18, Lockheed Martin’s F-21, the Eurofighter Typhoon, SAAB’s Gripen E, and the Russian MiG-35 and Su-35.

3. NAVAL FORCES

China currently has two aircraft carriers, 36 destroyers, 52 frigates, 50 corvettes, 74 submarines, 220 patrol vessels, and 29 crafts for mine warfare.
The Indian fleet, meanwhile, consists of one aircraft carrier, 10 destroyers, 13 frigates, 19 corvettes, 16 submarines, 139 patrol vessels, and three crafts for mine warfare. So, india needs atleast one air craft carrier and about 10 more destroyers to counter china in indian ocean .

4. NUCLEAR WARHEADS

According to SIPRI’s 2020 Yearbook, the Chinese nuclear arsenal currently stands at 320, while India has 150 weapons. It shows the nuclear capabilities of both the countries and india has half of the nuclear weapons that china has. So,india needs more nuclear warheads to counter china and pakistan .

5.MILITARY POWER

China has over 2 million troops employed in active military service compared to 1.3 million on the Indian side. Its defence budget is four times at USD 225 billion compared to that of India, which is approximately USD 55 billion.
China’s tank strength stands at a stupendous 13,000 plus compared to India’s 4,100 plus. And its armoured fighting vehicles are at a staggering 40,000; India pales into insignificance with just over 2,800. India also needs to increase the troops and also the armoured fighting vehicles.
